ATHENS, Greece / RankWire.AI / – The United Arab Emirates is set to inject an additional €15 billion into Greece through a collaborative investment plan between the two nations. This development was announced on October 22 during Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi,’s official visit to Athens. The new pledge expands upon a €4 billion initiative launched in May 2022 and aims to strengthen both economic and strategic connections.

The Abu Dhabi Media Office indicated that this expansion will enhance cooperation across sectors deemed strategic and vital for growth by both countries. This initial initiative created a framework for joint investments in areas of shared interest, resulting in key deals in energy and healthcare sectors. Officials highlighted that these outcomes demonstrate the partnership’s potential to translate economic opportunities into concrete investments. The newly allocated funds will supplement this existing framework.
Sheikh Khaled held discussions with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the Prime Minister’s Office in Athens. The two leaders explored ways to expand collaboration in energy, infrastructure, healthcare, and advanced technology. They also examined regional and international issues, emphasizing the importance of bolstering security, peace, and stability. Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis greeted the Crown Prince upon his arrival at Athens International Airport, reflecting the ongoing growth of bilateral relations.
Strategic forum results in €12.75 billion in agreements
Coinciding with the visit, the UAE-Greece Strategic Forum took place in Athens. During the event, UAE and Greek entities signed agreements and formed commercial partnerships valued at over €12.75 billion, covering sectors such as digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence, renewable energy, industry, logistics, ports, healthcare, life sciences, and food security. These agreements are separate from the €15 billion investment plan. Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis participated in the forum alongside senior officials from both governments.
UAE Minister of Foreign Trade Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi expressed that the agreements and the new investment plan demonstrate increasing confidence between the two economies. He emphasized that the focus now is on transforming this momentum into actionable projects. Al Zeyoudi highlighted the UAE’s role as a hub for trade, investment, and connectivity, describing Greece as a gateway to Europe. Greek Deputy Foreign Minister Haris Theoharis also attended the forum.
Greece regarded as a strategic entry point to European markets
The UAE stated that its decision to increase investment reflects confidence in Greece’s economic and investment capabilities. It pointed to Greece’s strategic geographic position and its importance as a connector between European markets and regional and international economies. The expanded initiative aims to bolster cooperation between investment institutions and companies from both nations, fostering innovation and knowledge exchange. It is designed to create new investment opportunities.
This announcement is part of the UAE’s broader strategy to establish enduring investment partnerships across Europe. In September, the UAE unveiled a €40 billion investment package for Germany spanning various sectors. The country has also increased negotiations with other European nations such as Italy. Officials indicated that Greece’s initiative marks the beginning of a new phase of collaboration that extends beyond mere financial commitments.
